Five sites for homework

For the assignment, I have found five sites that I like. I don't particulary like the content of each, but they were mainly chosen for design elements.

www.marilynmanson.com – This site has very good graphics and mouse over effects. When moving your cursor across the page, the picture (although some are disturbing) flip and move as well. The focus object of the page shifts back and forth through the background, following the mouse. There seem to be few links on the page, but after clicking on various things, you can be directed to "hidden" pages.

www.frightfurnace.com – This site has some simplistic flash features that are fun to look at. It is a sight mainly for a haunted house during Halloween, so the simple graphics make the story behind them not seem too creepy. I like the subtle aspects as well. The steel bolted borders of the pages and font really make you think of Halloween.

www.customglamgirl.com – This site uses a minimal color scheme and several different fonts. All of the fonts go together well. Because there aren't many colors, the fonts don't look disorganized or like a little kid was playing with the features.

www.dexigner.com – The best thing about this site is the fish-shaped eye balls. You have to go look. They're actually cute. I like that the topics are put in thin vertical columns so that it is easy to see all of them at once. The blocks of color are just enough to not be too bright. With only a small amount of multiple colors, they don't become overwhelming or look like the designer was trying to hard.

www.mtv.com – I really like the background of this page. It's very edgy and abstract. I also like that they use blue for the titles. The pictures of all the starts are also very interesting.

From looking at these, the main thing I have noticed is that it's better to use large amounts of one thing, or small amounts of many things. This keeps the viewer from being overwhelmed or the site looking cluttered.
